Ravensworth Feedlot is located on Nari Nari country, near Hay in the Riverina Region of New South Wales. This feedlot currently holds 36,000 cows, and was recently approved to expand to 100,000 cows.
Thousands of animals at this feedlot have no access to shade or shelter. In the pens that do have shelter, there isn’t enough space for all of the cows to access shade. When we visited the feedlot, we saw a worker dumping the bodies of dead cows into a massive open grave. These cows had been autopsied, and the worker had difficulty moving their butchered bodies on a forklift. There was also what appeared to be an older grave that had liquid seeping into the dirt.
This feedlot now has approval to be the largest in Australia.
