Sapphire Feedlot

Sapphire Feedlot is located on Kamilaroi country, near Goondiwindi in the Goondiwindi region of Queensland. This feedlot is owned and operated by Smithfield Cattle Company, which also owns Smithfield Feedlot, also featured on this website. Sapphire Feedlot is located just 670 metres from the Dumaresq River, and almost the entire feedlot is mapped as a flood hazard area. On the day we visited, we observed a dead cow that had been dumped on the compost pile. The feedlot provides shade, but it does not appear large enough for all of the cows at once. Cows can remain on this feedlot for anywhere from 100 to 400+ days.
